Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, costing society over 83.7 billion dollars each year in health services, medications and lost work time due to disability. One American dies every 32 seconds of cardiovascular disease.
Nuclear imaging, echocardiography and vascular testing are effective ways of diagnosing cardiovascular disease. Together, they show not only the structure of the heart, but its function as well. By acquiring images of the heart’s pump action and blood flow, physicians are able to detect the presence of cardiovascular disease much sooner than methods that provide only structural information.
Each year, over 20 million cardiovascular tests are performed in the United States. Accurate results depend on the experience and training of both the physician and the technologist.
